Northbridge, RHCS

Geothermal Industries Australia (GIA) was engaged by RHCS—a leading Sydney geothermal specialist—to serve as the drilling contractor for a challenging residential project in Northbridge, Sydney. The site was incredibly tight and testing, characterised by steep topography, constrained access, and difficult subsurface conditions typical of Sydney’s lower North Shore. Working within a confined footprint with limited manoeuvrability, Geothermal Industries successfully drilled seven geothermal probes to a depth of 120 metres each. Our team utilised compact, highly manoeuvrable drilling equipment and executed the borefield with precision, avoiding existing services, retaining walls, and neighbouring structures while minimising disruption to the homeowner and surrounding properties.

For this installation, GIA utilised 45DN Muovitech Turbo pipe as the geothermal probe material. The 45DN diameter was selected for its excellent thermal transfer characteristics and hydraulic efficiency over the 120-metre depth. Muovitech Turbo pipe’s robust construction and high burst pressure ratings proved invaluable given the testing ground conditions encountered in Northbridge, including variable rock layers and groundwater inflows. Each of the seven probes was installed with care, thermally grouted to maximise ground contact, and pressure-tested to verify system integrity. The combination of GIA’s drilling expertise and the high-performance 45DN Muovitech pipe delivered a reliable, energy-efficient geothermal loop field suited to the demanding site conditions.

Finally, Geothermal Industries extends its sincere thanks to RHCS for engaging us as their trusted drilling partner on this Northbridge project. RHCS’s reputation for delivering premium geothermal solutions across Sydney is built on collaboration with proven specialists, and we are proud to have contributed our expertise in tight-access drilling. We look forward to further opportunities to work alongside RHCS on challenging geothermal installations across Sydney’s most difficult sites.
