Geothermal Industries Australia (GIA) was engaged to deliver the geothermal drilling scope for a residential project in Elanora Heights, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The project required drilling six geothermal probes to a depth of 120 metres each on a site characterised by the challenging geological conditions typical of the region. Elanora Heights sits atop complex sandstone and shale sequences, often interbedded with clay lenses and reactive shale bands that can complicate drilling and grouting operations. Working within a standard residential footprint with careful consideration for setback requirements and existing site features, GIA’s experienced team successfully drilled all six boreholes to the full 120‑metre specification. Our team monitored geological changes in real time, adjusting drilling parameters as needed to maintain progress and ensure borehole integrity throughout the installation.
For this installation, GIA utilised our 45DN Muovitech Turbo pipe as the geothermal probe material. The 45DN diameter was selected for its excellent thermal transfer characteristics and hydraulic efficiency over the 120‑metre depth. Muovitech Turbo pipe’s robust construction and high burst pressure ratings proved particularly valuable given the variable ground conditions encountered in Elanora Heights, including hard sandstone bands and potential for minor ground movement. Each of the six probes was carefully installed, thermally grouted to maximise ground contact, and pressure‑tested to verify system integrity. The combination of GIA’s drilling expertise and the high‑performance Muovitech Turbo pipe delivered a reliable, energy‑efficient geothermal loop field suited to the Northern Beaches environment.
