Geothermal Industries Australia (GIA) was engaged by Highlands Geoexchange, the South Coast’s leading geothermal specialist, to deliver specialist drilling services for a demanding residential project. The scope called for drilling two geothermal boreholes to a depth of 120 metres each on an exceptionally tight site characterised by testing geology. The ground conditions—including hard rock layers, frequent fractures, and variable lithology—posed significant challenges for conventional drilling. GIA deployed advanced drilling techniques and real-time geological logging to navigate these complexities, successfully completing both boreholes to specification without compromising site access or neighbouring structures.
For this installation, GIA utilised our trusted 45mm Muovitech Turbo pipe as the geothermal probe material. The Muovitech Turbo pipe’s enhanced thermal efficiency, superior burst strength, and smooth internal bore proved invaluable under the demanding conditions. Its robust construction allowed for reliable installation through difficult geological zones, while the 45mm diameter optimised heat exchange performance within the confined borehole space. Each 120-metre probe was carefully installed, thermally grouted to ensure maximum ground contact, and rigorously pressure-tested. The result is a high-performance geothermal loop field designed for long-term efficiency and minimal maintenance.
Finally, GIA extends our sincere thanks to Highlands Geoexchange for engaging us as their drilling contractor on this challenging South Coast project. Their reputation for delivering premium geothermal solutions in difficult terrains is built on partnerships with proven specialists, and we are proud to have contributed our expertise in tight‑access drilling and Muovitech Turbo pipe installation. We look forward to further collaborations with Highlands Geoexchange across the South Coast region.
